Leah’s Article: Signage: Better None Than Bad
A powerful quote from Leah White’s Signage: Better None Than Bad
Our desire to avoid confrontation and our inability to understand the user get in the way of providing the highest level of service. Bad signs exist in all types of libraries, victimizing users without bias and leading to some unwelcome encounters. It makes me wonder if a bad sign is truly better than nothing or just making things worse.
Check out the full article. Remember if we wouldn’t put the sign on the front page of the website, it may not be smart to put it on any wall. As always, please feel free to submit photos.

All from Dominican University. In all fairness to Dominican, the person responsible for these signs is no longer employed by the university. Oh, and the no food signs are awesome because the library has a full pizza and sandwich cafe.
Library signs
This is a terrific idea for a forum I am looking forward to adding to it and seeing what is found.
Library Signage: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
This is a space to share library signs. I hope to include both wonderful library signage as well as passive-aggressive library signs. All posts will be anonymous, and should include the library name or location.
The idea for this space is inspired by the work of Andy and his A View From Your Desk as well as Nicole’s Librarian Wardrobe.
